CLOTHING: WEARABLE ART

Ms. Short's wearable art takes many forms -- jackets, coats, vests, collars. Symbolism might be embroidered, or a jacket might incorporate hand-made ceramic buttons, or beading might embellish the intricately quilted textures of fabrics. Clothing is sized for the specific client. Buyers suggest desired themes and color schemes. Ms. Short encourages incorporating 'memory items' such as the client's own treasures of antique lace, buttons, heirloom jewelry and beads, or other small souvenirs that personalize the items.

You might never wear your high school prom dress or your wedding dress again -- but some of its fabric could transform to become an integral part of your present-day wardrobe. Those intricately smocked and embroidered children's clothes, or the sequined and fringed flapper dresses that your great-aunt wore, or the fine laces of yesteryear could come out of musty storage and be reincarnated.
