CARING FOR FABRIC ART
|
|
The care of your fabric art works is important in keeping colors from fading and embellishments in place.
Wool is premium; it provides a rich lushness, texture and tactile quality along with added life. Cotton has been used since the 19th century; it provides a smooth luster and fidelity of color that compares very favorably to wool. Both will last for generations in normal circumstances.
Silk will also last for a very long time, if kept from direct sunlight and occasionally cleaned as noted below.
Laughing Heart Creations are primarily cotton, though some wool is occasionally used, as is silk.
It is recommended that hangings, clothing, and dolls be stored or displayed away from direct sunlight. If lit with artificial light, the source of the light should be at least two feet from the piece and used only a few hours each day, not around the clock.
If items are folded, it's wise to unfold and then re-fold along different lines every few months. If items are hung in closets or stored in drawers, old sheets are good wrapping material, rather than plastics.
Cleaning may be done by vacumming carefully with a screen (a piece of cheesecloth or something similar) over the hose of the vacuum, with suction set at its gentlest. Professional cleaning (dry-cleaning) is NOT recommended as the chemicals will eventually harm the fabrics.
