As the observed trials on Saturday had expanded exponentially in competitors AND spectators, so did the TT Scrambles on Sunday. A rough count came up with well over 120 people tugging in lawn chairs, setting up shade canopies, wandering to spots of shade (scarce!!), climbing on pickup roofs, and in the on-loan school bleachers. Once again, Jim Pomeroy ramrodded the event, and without using the bullhorn either! Dennis Olsen, Athena resident and owner of Diamond Eye Manufacturing, again let us use his vacant property -- although it had shrunk from last year due to the firm's growth and construction. Harry Taylor, Eric Beaver, and several others deserve a lot of thanks for prepping the track. Among the flaggers were Al Pedro, Pete Fischer, Caleb Frazier (last year's winner of Raffle Bike!).
About 9:30 a.m., Jim held his first riders session, and started the competitors in practice rounds on the track. Spectators cheered as though races had already begun, guzzled from water bottles, and passed around the tubes of sun screen. And George Cone and Roger Lippiatt seemed married to their pliers and crescent wrenches as they worked on bike after bike to make sure all were race ready!
