What a Night! -- Banquet, Awards, Raffle Winner, Auction, AND Super Hunky

The raffle for the classic model 94 Wombat this year was under the aegis of GEM, Inc. a non-profit undertaking Athena's GEM Theater Restoration. Joe Schenk, GEM board chair sold tickets right until the last moment, watched by colleagues Sam Pambrun and Helen Miller. At Bob Whitman's invitation, GEM's board treasurer Sam Pambrun spoke of childhood adventures on a Yamaguchi during Ed Miley's pre-Hodaka days. Preliminary calculations (all approximate) indicate $2600 in cash sales of raffle tickets with another $1300 from online ticket purchases. After bike and other associated costs of about $1500, GEM, Inc.'s theater project will benefit to the tune of about $2400.
AND THE RAFFLE BIKE WINNER IS
Dave Decata of Pocatello, Idaho!

During the evening, Gregg Floren made sure all the sponsors of Hodaka Days were given their due. [Listings are on the program, on flyers, and at the Hodaka Club website.] Bob Whitman did his usual song-and-dance routines to coax bids during the auction; when Dyann Swanson kept bidding on this part and that part, he finally queried: "Just what are you building, Dyann?" Paul Stannard became an occasional sidekick salesman (though this year he didn't don a dress!). Gregg Floren (and his wife Jan) deserve everyone's special thanks for putting in the energies and the too-many-to-count hours to make Hodaka Days successful. And Super Hunky Rick Seiman left no doubt as to the source of his many tales ... truth always being stranger than (and far more entertaining than) fiction!

Special presentation to the City of Athena

Milo Linville presented first a gas can, then a pot of oil, then a manual ... and FINALLY (after yanking off some disreputable looking sheets!) the remade Athena Police Bike, the first incarnation of which had made such a hit at the 2008 Hodaka Days. Mayor Chuck Vickery (accompanied by his wife and son) accepted with great thanks and committed to having the bike on display at City Hall for the next several weeks, until more detailed plans for it can be made.
