HODAKA
OWNERS and FANS ---
HELP
NEEDED !!
The
community of Athena, Oregon, home to the Hodaka phenomenon, is raising funds to
build a new public library.
The present
library is dark, cramped, archaic, uninsulated … and does not have enough space
even to shelve the current collection—25% of the books are in storage and
inaccessible to the patrons! The
library needs additional computer work stations, more space for children’s
programs including ready-to-read and summer activities, an archival standard
local history room, meeting and research space and fixtures, more display
areas, and a teen area.
The Athena Library
Friends Association (ALFA) has already raised nearly $475,000 in assets and
monies toward the $864,000 goal. Community support is very high; local
contributions now stand at 26%. The
preliminaries are done: feasibility study, site assessment and survey,
community input on schematic design concepts, etc. A project architect is now on deck and work sessions are rolling
toward completion of design and contractor-ready drawings. Ground breaking is anticipated in late
spring 2007. The new building will be three times the size of current library
and a real civic presence in downtown Athena.
The new library’s local history room will
feature the Hodaka story …
through reference files, displays,
memorabilia, photographs.
Already people are contributing items for
the library’s
collection, but until we have a new
building, storage is a big problem!!
PLEASE HELP us build … every dollar counts, no amount is TOO small
(or TOO large!!)
Please go to ALFA WEBSITE for ONLINE DONATIONS and/or ONLINE QUILT RAFFLE. Your help is so very much appreciated.
Let’s create a
place in Athena to celebrate Hodakas and preserve the story … a place
townfolk and visitors can experience the Hodaka heritage … back in Athena where
it all began!
