Hodaka Days 2007: BBQ, Raffle, Awards, Auction

Some statistics from the weekend (updates to come as tallies more complete, including a list of states and countries represented):

USA and Canada both represented; USA participants came from Texas, Minnesota, Oregon, North Dakota, Washington, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Nevada, Utah, Louisiana, Rhode Island, Missouri, Idaho, Pennsylvania ... and probably more; let us know if your state not listed!
300+ formally registered
between 100 and 300 (people came and went so accurate counts nearly impossible) unregistered
100 parade bikes
60+ ice cream sundaes and 10 dozen cookies consumed at Swansons
69 bikes in Bike Show
$1200 (approx) earned from raffle for newly formed Hodaka Club
$257 collected to benefit City Park when the hat was passed Saturday evening
one person says he took over 600 photos!
120 BBQ dinners served by Steve's Smoke Shack; uncounted numbers of other snacks/drinks/meals, including his specialty of beer battered deep fried asparagus
$3740 earned at auction to benefit Hodaka archives in Local History area of new Athena Library; "Hodaka Days 2007" will be listed on the permanent 'wall of honor' donor recognition plaque at the new library
35-40 participants in Scrambles
2 large banners flying over Main Street and 2 Hodaka flags flying at Scrambles
2 EMTs and ambulance with treatment to one (Danny Messmore's wrist after a fall at Trials); the donation made to the ambulance crew is going into a fund for a needed new piece of equipment related to treatment of sudden heart attacks, according to Dyann Swanson at Athena City Hall ... so it was very much appreciated!
40+ sponsors for the event
first-time ever affiliation with AMA for sanctioned competitive events
100s and 100s (and more 100s!) of hours put in by volunteers including Hodaka Days organizing committee, track layout and prep, trials leadership and segment watchers, Scrambles flaggers, Athena Library Friends group, publicity team, photographers, website managers, hay bale movers ... the list goes on and on. Gregg Floren gets a standing ovation for heading up the effort. Committee heads/organizing committee included Al Pedro, Bob Whitman, Chuck Swanson, Ed Chesnut, Harry Taylor, Kelly Corwin, Lee Butler, Mike Kirchberger, Rick Piper, Stu Osborn, and Thal Anderson.Thanks to one and all! (And if any names left out of that list, please let us know.

Special thanks must also go to the City of Athena and its businesses and residents. The Public Works guys prep the park, Humbert's subsidizes garbage services, the City Council makes sure police are scheduled for coverage and security, administrative staff funnels a zillion tasks and messages, QWEST's local fellow loans a cherry picker to get the banners up across Main Street, and the school permits RVs in its parking area. Some RVers plug into city-owned water and electricity without penalty or payment. The city relaxes normal camping restrictions in the park, opens the pool showers, and works with ODOT on getting Main Street (which is after all a state highway) reserved/blocked for parade. That list goes on and on too. The community really enjoys having Hodaka folks come to town ... and it shows.

Lifetime honorary memberships were awarded to Harry Taylor, Ed Chesnut, Jim Gentry, Bob Canfield, and Marv Foster.
