Post Office
Located at 345 E. Main Street, the post office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except at noon hour. Post office boxes are available to rent; there is no home mail delivery in the main portion of Athena.

The government in Athena, Oregon is of the Council/Mayor format. Meetings are normally held on second Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. Following the monthly meeting, a City Council newsletter is available at City Hall, the library, the post office, and various downtown businesses.
Council members are elected for 4-year terms. Members in May 2006 are:

Athena shopping includes restaurants, grocery stores, laundromat, liquor store, hardware store, auto parts store, gasoline stations, bank, computer repair and consulting, manicure services, hair dresser, antique and collectibles stores, insurance company, tax preparer, and other small shops. A fuller listing is in the business directory. Nearby Weston (3 miles) has restaurants, small groceries, a post office, and a bank. Adams, about 4 miles to the south, has a cafe, general store, and post office. Major shopping areas are located in Pendleton (20 miles), Walla Walla (22 miles), and Milton-Freewater (10 miles).
